T
he hottest spot on Monday nights is Young Life. Young life is a non-profit Christian organization. Young Life’s purpose is to bring the good news of Jesus Christ into the lives of adolescents with an approach that is respectful of who kids are and hopeful about who they can be.
“Young Life showed me that religion can be a big part of my life, and show me a better path to take, ” said Deedra, a freshman at a local high school.
While in the program they will experience singing, participate various skits, and a game or two and finally a message about religion. The program’s purpose is directed towards high school students though you don’t have to be a teen to be involved. Young life staff and volunteer leaders build relationships with teenagers through a variety of interactions, such as formal and informal events.
“ I like the fact that the leaders are easy to talk to, and it feels like there a friend but with adult advice”, said Monae Broadnax, a senior at Lincoln High. Young life was started in Gainesville, Texas by James Rayburn on October 16, 1941 and as been spread across the nation.
The organization teaches students about religion and how to live their life with a personal relationship with religion. The volunteers or leaders are trained, screened and interviewed by an area director .The reason for this program is to target high school students who were not intersected in church. Young Life is open to anyone and any student who wants to learn and interact with others about religion.
“Before Young Life I really didn’t even care about church or religion,” said Treyvon, a junior at San Diego High. The program is held at Hoover High School; from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m every Monday night. Transportation is also provided.
