Lincoln Walks the Walk

H
urley, the clothing company best known for catering to the skateboard and surfing community, has invited Lincoln High School to participate in their 1st National Championship “Walk the Walk” fashion show competition in Huntington Beach this summer during the US Open of Surfing. Hurley also invited other high schools from around the country to partake in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to showcase their creativity through fashion, demonstrate their dedication to their projects, and express their pride for their schools.
Walk the Walk is a fashion show competition similar to Project Runway meets Friday Night Football. Students use Hurley clothes to create a 5-minute fashion show and compete against other schools to see who best showcases their own vision of Hurley. Those shows are then judged on timing, overall theme, brand interpretation, school support, music, design, and promotion.
The competition will consist of rounds of elimination that culminate into one National Championship. Since Lincoln High School has won two titles from past Hurley competitions, we are exempt from having to advance through viral challenges and semi-finals, although Lincoln would definitely appreciate your support by voting for their video challenge entries. Lincoln students participating in Walk the Walk will be transported by bus (at the expense of Hurley) to the competition in Huntington Beach where the National Championship will be held. The other schools that win from the North West and East Coast divisions will be flown to Southern California to compete.
Whatever money we earn from Hurley goes directly back to the students. Our victory at Huntington Beach last year not only earned us bragging rights as West Coast Grand Champions, but we also earned $10,000, a portion of which was used to support our arts program.
Lincoln needs your help! Show your support by logging onto www.hurley.com/wtw or www.hurley.com/walkthewalk, and voting for the three videos that will be posted to Hurley’s website in the next three months. To vote for Lincoln, click on the sign up button at the bottom left corner of the page to create an account (fill out the prompted information and submit). Each user can vote one time per day, per video. The first video challenge was posted February 10th and will be up for one week. Make sure to write down and save your login information, so that you can vote multiple times. To vote, click the fifth star to the right for the highest vote possible. Mr. Mutter’s 4th period Multi-Media class have partnered up with A.S.B. to produce these videos.
Lincoln students who are interested in modeling and being part of the show should see Mr. Camacho in the ASB room (146) during lunch. Applications will be out by the end of February. This is part one of a 3-part story. The next story will cover the auditions and rehearsals; the last one will capture the Walk the Walk National Competition. Good luck Hornets!
