L

incoln Varsity Boys Basketball team traveled to Ontario hoping to earn redemption against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks.  On Saturday, March 17, over 150 die-hard Hornet fans traveled in the rain over 100 miles in support of the team.

“I think we got a good shot," said senior Jerry Cobb, point guard. “We already know how they play, so it’s not going to be a surprise.”

Mr. Miner, owner of R & M Sporting Goods and alumni of Lincoln, organized a charter bus for the Southern California Regional Division II Championships.

“This is going to be a good game. I believe that we can we can win," said Miner.

Both teams came out the first quarter trying to find themselves, both missing in their attempt to score.

“I didn’t know what was going on with them,” said a distressed fan.

Lincoln finally made it on the board with a shot from Co-Captain Tyrell Robinson, who scored the most points in the game (20). The game then turned into a ping pong match, we would score then LCC. LCC would score a three, Lincoln would score a three.

The Hornets were able to hold on to the lead at half time, by four points.

Seniors Matt Shrigley and Erick Magnuson from LLC, came out the second half revitalized, making a run for Lincoln's lead.

Senior Nokee Conley, animated Basketball fan said, “We got this, I think we got a really good shot at winning this.”

Even in the last seconds of the game, Head Coach Jason Bryant, felt that his team could still pull through.

“I still felt confident that we could win, if not tie it, so we could go into overtime,” said Bryant.

Sadly, our boys were unable to conquer the Mavericks.  Lincoln’s journey to Sacramento for the state title was cut short with a score of 47-43.

“Players did not play to their full ability, even coaches fell short in their coaching,” said Coach Bryant. “I’m sad and disappointed, but we’ll get it next year.”
