omecoming 2011 took place at Vic Player Stadium, on Friday, Oct. 28,  with the Hornets taking on the Cathedral Dons. The last time the Hornets and Dons met was at the CIF Championship last year, where the Dons took home the win.

“I will yell and explain how urgent, important, and imperative it is to win,” said Captain, Nikko Reece-Henry. "I’m going all out to win and they should do the same.”

As the team took the field, they warmed up for the game with concentration and intensity.

Before the game, Coach David Dunn said the team is becoming a unit, and should have a close to flawless game.

As the game took way, it seemed the Hornets were a unit, knew how urgent it was to win and believed it when they opened up the game with powerful tackles holding the Dons.

Then a twinkle-finger interception by senior defensive player, Jordan Letuli, which lead way for junior TaJon Mondy to a 32 yard run up the right side of the field. But that could not hold the Dons from getting the ball back in the last 18 seconds of the first quarter for a touchdown.

At the start of the second quarter, the Hornets put points on the board through a field goal by junior Diego Martinez. The score was 3-7, but the Dons made their way down the field again for another touchdown making the score 3-14. The Dons were pulling ahead, but quarterback, junior Ian Hardman took advantage of the ball, getting it to juniors Tyrell and Tyree Robinson for three amazing catches. The Hornets would not give up and neither would the Dons, grabbing an interception the last 21 seconds of the second quarter.

To start the second half, Lincoln can back ready when senior Isaac Smith ran 43 yards up the field. But the Hornets missed their chance to score again after a missed field goal. Then the Dons pushed down the field for their own touchdown. The Hornets would not give up when senior Maurice Carnell deflected a pass intended for the Dons.  The Hornets kept coming, Mondy ran up the field and a flag pushed them closer, but could not pull off the win. The final score was 3-27, with the Dons beating Lincoln at their own homecoming game.

“Mental mistakes. The defense played good, but can't be on the field the whole game,” said Head Coach, David Dunn, after the game. “They’re playing good, but can’t pull it together. Every week is a new day.”

Next, the Hornets wil take on the St. Augustine at Southwestern College on Friday, Nov. 4,  at 6:30 p.m.
