Lincoln Beats Steele Canyon, Monte Vista, and Morse Up Next

he Lincoln Hornets played the Monte Vista Monarchs on Saturday, February 26, 2011. This was the quarterfinals; the game was intense as the stands quickly filled with fans, alumni, scouts and students. The Hornets were focused, and ready to come out and win.
“We were focused on beating Monte Vista, and we played a really good offense and our scoring was really good,” said Kevin Smith, a point guard for the team.
The starting five were Norman Powell, Rasean Simpson, Tyree Robinson, Tyrell Robinson and Kevin Smith. In the first minutes, the Hornets were already working the Monarchs hard, with dunks and a hard defense that kept the Monarchs from scoring. By half time, the score was 54-19, the Hornets were up by 35 points. That didn’t stop the Hornets, they continued to score back-to-back points and execute “nasty” dunks and three pointers. By the end of the game, the score was 82-40.
Lincoln plays the Morse Tigers, March 2, 2011 at Lincoln at 5 p.m. The tickets are $6 for students (high school students with an I.D.) and seniors (60+) and $10 for adults. This is the semifinals game and the winner plays either Hoover or Helix at the University of San Diego (USD) Jenny Craig Pavilion this Friday night for the C.I.F. Championship Division II Title. This is the biggest game of the season; the Hornets and Tigers have been rivals for many years.
According to Tyrell Robinson, “We are going to win, we are focused and ready. This is one of the reasons I came to Lincoln, was to beat Morse.”
The Tigers current overall record is 19-11 and the Hornets record is 27-1. Both of these teams are from the fourth district. Tony Young, Councilmember and President from District 4, plans to attend the event.
"I am excited and proud of both teams reaching this level of achievement in basketball. As an alumni of Morse, my heart is always with the Tigers. As Council President who represents Lincoln and Morse, I am rooting for both teams to play to the best of their abilities, represent their families and schools well, have fun and enjoy the moment, and that the best team wins,” said Young.
