Lady Hornets Off to Rocky Start

he Lady Hornet’s season started off rocky this year. Last year, they lost most of their team when more than half of the varsity players graduated. The coaching staff, along with the team, had to step it up.

“Working together and giving tips to further their skills,” junior returner Mary Cruz said, “that’s the best way I could help them.“

With only four seniors and the rest underclassmen, the Lady Hornet's proved this holiday break that they were a team to look at.  They came in second place at the Lady Colts Holiday Tournament with a 4-1 record. With only five high school experienced players, it seemed to be looking up.  Unfortunately, they began with two losses, to Scripps Ranch, 46-22 and La Jolla, 61-25.

“Going over plays, ” said junior guard Monese Nixon, “and shooting drills is what we do to fix mistakes.”

Next, the Lady Hornets take on Our Lady of Peace (OLP) on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 4:30 at home.  On Friday, they will play Cathedral Catholic on Friday, Jan. 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hive.
