L

incoln High School is one of six semi-finalists in a competition for a chance to have President Barack Obama speak at its commencement ceremony. If chosen, Obama will speak at Lincoln’s June 12 graduation at Golden Hall.

Lincoln is the only school in San Diego that is a semi-finalist in The Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge. High Tech High was a finalist in 2010.  Lincoln was chosen for creativity in engaging and supporting students, academic results and progress in preparing students to succeed in college and career readiness.

“I think it would be great, memorable, and an honor to have Obama speak to our graduating class," said senior Zion Daniel. “And maybe he will sing for us.”

The six remaining schools will make videos that will be placed on the website of the White House.  The public will have an opportunity to vote for the three finalists. The president will then make the final selection. Good Luck Hornets!!
