Plus, as an African American, I know that education has been instrumental in helping blacks in America come up and improve our community. Chinese food and dirty dishes is where Bill Blankhartz began his career. As a dishwasher, it wasn’t until he met a friend that his choice in life would be impacted. Blankhartz started teaching as a special needs educator twenty-nine years ago in 1981. Beginning as a substitute teacher, he taught at schools such as O’ Farrell, Angier Elementary, the old School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), and now Lincoln High School.

Sakeenah Shabazz-$10,000 Richer and Lincoln’s Salutatorian

Sakeenah Shabazz, a senior at Lincoln High School, is now $10,000 richer. How? Through the Nordstrom Scholarship. People describe Sakeenah as motivated, intelligent, and passionate. She is involved in various on-and-off campus organizations such as MEChaA(Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/Chicana Aztlan), ARSO (African Revolutionary Student Organization), Aaron Price Fellows and Cardinals Interact, to which she serves as an intern. In addition, she is the salutatorian of her class with a cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.3.
